The Spaniard equalised two minutes from time to cancel out Daniel Sturridge's opener and dent the visitors' title bid. It was Gomez's fourth goal in five games and meant the Latics have now taken seven points from their last four games. "I am scoring goals," Gomez told ESPN. "After their goal I think our reaction was very good and in the end we got that goal and we deserved the draw." Captain Gary Caldwell claimed Wigan's strength in adversity was key. "We believe in the group of players that we've got and we showed great desire," he said. "Everyone's pulling in the same direction. When you go on a run of defeats you need to stick together and we've done that. "Chelsea are a great side and play some great stuff but we stuck at it and deserved a point in end." Wigan boss Roberto Martinez was delighted with his team's display. "Today the performance was perfect, from our point of view," he said on ESPN. "Today we had more corners, better possession and more chances than Chelsea. I think that speaks volumes. The players were magnificent." Asked what he put his team's resurgence in form after such a poor start to the season down to, he said: "You need to get to know each other. As a team you need to gain that momentum and that belief and that comes from playing well and getting results. "Now we are starting to get a real understanding of each other. "Losing eight games on the trot was a real test, but the players overcame that." Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas admitted Wigan deserved their point. "It is a disappointing result," the Portuguese said. "It was a hard-fought game with many chances on both sides, maybe more from Wigan. They fought hard to get the result here. "I think Wigan had the momentum (towards the end) and the crowd was behind them and they got the goal they deserved - 1-1 was a fair result." Asked if his side were complacent following their victory over Manchester City on Monday, he said: "No. It's always difficult during the Christmas period to play away from home. "We didn't get the three points we thought we could get, but we have to continue to fight and get back to good results."
