Stephen Ward scored a second-half winner as Wolverhampton came from a goal down to beat Blackburn 2-1 away on Saturday's opening day of the new Premier League season.

Argentine Mauro Formica scored just 20 minutes into his debut for Blackburn, but the celebrations at Ewood Park were shortlived as Steven Fletcher nodded an equalizer two minutes later for Wolves.

Ward fired the visitors in front just after the restart, seconds after Blackburn goalkeeper Paul Robinson had saved a penalty from Kevin Doyle following Michel Salgado's trip on Matt Jarvis.

However, Blackburn failed to clear the danger after the spot-kick and Ward lashed home a left-foot shot from just inside the box in the 47th minute.
