Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar insists they will look to end the season on a high regardless of how Wigan fare against Arsenal on Tuesday night.

Villa's place in the Premier League will be secure if the FA Cup winners fail to win at the Emirates.

But Vlaar has promised their preparations for the final game of the season will remain unchanged, even if the match at the DW Stadium on Sunday proves to be a dead rubber.

"It's Wigan's last chance on Tuesday, so they have to win," Vlaar told Aston Villa's official website.

"Of course it's an important game for us. Of course it would be nice if Arsenal win. Maybe they will help, but we will see. It's important for us.

"I think I'm going to be watching the game. I don't know if we'll see it together. We haven't spoken about it.

"But I've said it before we have it in our own hands and if we have to do it ourselves, we're capable of doing that.

"All of the teams have to try to get good results so we will see what happens on Tuesday and Sunday.

"The most important thing is well still have it in our own hands with the last game. If we have to do it ourselves, then we will.

"I look forward to giving the fans a good result, whatever happens at Arsenal."
