PSV maintained their unbeaten run and registered their fifth win in eight games although they were made to work hard by VVV with all three goals coming in the second half. Half-time substitute Jonathan Reis opened the scoring after 56 minutes and he added his second of the afternoon after defender Wilfred Bouma had made it 2-0. PSV are now a point clear of Ajax after the Amsterdammers slumped to their first defeat of the season. Ricky van Wolfswinkel was the architect of their downfall with two penalties inside the opening 15 minutes. Ajax striker Luis Suarez hit a post in the second half but the hosts could not engineer a comeback with an injury-time strike from Siem De Jong arriving too late to save their unbeaten record. Defending champions FC Twente have yet to lose and remained within two points of PSV with a 4-2 win over in-form FC Groningen. Groningen went ahead through Andreas Granqvist's penalty after 28 minutes but the hosts levelled within moments through Bryan Ruiz. Ruiz made it 2-1 from the spot four minutes into the second half and Marc Janko made it three inside the last 20 minutes. Tim Matavz hit Groningen's second to set up a frantic finale but the hosts held their nerve and sealed the win with a fourth from Theo Janssen two minutes from time. Heerenveen and ADO Den Haag failed to produce a goal between them while Feyenoord's terrible start continued as they could only manage a 1-1 draw at De Graafschap. Mario Been's side had aspirations of challenging for the title this term but have only picked up two wins from their opening eight league fixtures and have fallen further off the pace after this result. The outcome could have been worse for the Rotterdam side as they fell behind when Hugo Bargas slotted home in the 20th minute, but Luigi Bruins equalised from the penalty spot 11 minutes later. Heracles Almelo also continue to struggle after squandering a 1-0 lead on their way to a late defeat at AZ Alkmaar. The visitors led thanks to Willy Overtoom's 41st-minute strike but Kolbeinn Sigthorsson equalised two minutes later and Jonathas netted an 88th-minute winner for the home side.
