VDV feels for in-form Defoe

With Emmanuel Adebayor leading Spurs' line in Premier League action his supporting role has come down to a choice between the Dutchman and the England international. Van der Vaart enjoys an attacking role through the middle and proved his quality on Sunday with a well-taken brace in Spurs' 2-1 win at Blackburn Rovers. However, with the ex-Real Madrid man in fine form that means no starting place for Defoe, who recently came off the bench to net in their 2-2 draw away to Newcastle. Van der Vaart feels he can play alongside Defoe and does not know who Redknapp will choose in his starting line-ups between now and the summer. "I just score my goals when I am picked," explained Van der Vaart. "I feel that I am a starting player so I am not worried about starting, but of course I feel sorry for Jermain. "I feel also that we can play together, so we will have to see what happens throughout the season." Van der Vaart was troubled by hamstring worries last season, problems the 28-year-old insist are now firmly behind him as he is 100 per cent fit. "I am now 100 per cent fit. I am playing and I am scoring goals - I can't do any more than that. Every day I am feeling better," he continued. "I do not have to manage the injury, now I can do whatever I need to do on the pitch. "In the beginning you have to be quite careful and you feel scared a little bit but now I hope it stays like this."
