Van Persie, Huntelaar battle for striker's role

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will look to cement his position as the No. 1 striker when the Netherlands takes on Turkey in a friendly on Wednesday.
Turkey, coached by Dutchman Guus Hiddink, hopes to break a two-match losing streak following defeats to Germany and Azerbaijan that have dented its European Championship qualification hopes.
Robin Van Persie was the undisputed first-choice striker for the Netherlands going into the World Cup, but he scored just once in South Africa and was one of the tournament's biggest disappointments.
Van Persie returns to the Dutch squad after injuring his left ankle in August, and says reclaiming the striker's position is "a good goal."
"I still think I can play well as striker," Van Persie said. "We'll see if I can prove it."
Huntelaar also scored only once at the World Cup, but he did not start a single match and did not play at all in the semifinals or final.
But he has made the most of Van Persie's injury-enforced absence to become the top scorer in Euro 2012 qualifiers with eight goals in four matches.
Van Persie has 19 goals in 51 internationals while Huntelaar has been more prolific, finding the net 24 times in 40 matches.
Netherlands captain Mark van Bommel also was returning to action after aggravating a right knee injury in the 4-1 defeat of Sweden last month.
Midfielder Wesley Sneijder said he was fit despite being diagnosed with anemia after passing out at halftime of a Serie A match against Brescia this month.
"It was no big deal," Sneijder said. "I'm fresh again. I've rested and thought about other things."
Van Bommel's Bayern Munich teammate Arjen Robben was still out of the squad with a hamstring injury and coach Bert van Marwijk again omitted Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong as a result of his tackle that broke the leg of Newcastle winger Hatem Ben Arfa.
Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has slotted into De Jong's spot in the last two internationals and has combined well with Sneijder to give the Netherlands a more attacking and creative midfield.
Also out injured are Ajax pair Urby Emanuelson and Demy de Zeeuw and Stuttgart defender Khalid Boulahrouz. Van Marwijk called up Ryan Babel and Royston Drenthe to cover for them.
Hiddink was bringing a young, experimental lineup to Amsterdam after dropping several regulars and being forced to replace the injured Nihat Kahveci, Arda Turan, Hakan Balta, Selcuk Sahin and Emre Belozoglu.
Hiddink said Turkey's most realistic chance to qualify for Euro 2012 was via the playoffs if it can place second behind Germany in Group A.
"We are now in a phase where the next generation has to stand up and be counted," Hiddink told the official Dutch supporters' website. "Playing teams of the caliber of the Netherlands is good for their learning process."
