Uzbekistan beat Lebanon 1-0 in a 2014 World Cup qualifier Tuesday, dealing a further blow to a team that lost its captain and was hit by a match-fixing scandal.

Server Djeparov scored the lone goal in the 63rd minute for the home side, moving it atop Group A and one point clear of South Korea, which beat Qatar 2-1. The loss leaves Lebanon bottom of the group and unlikely to qualify.

Lebanon captain Roda Antar retired days ahead of the match, and the team is still recovering from a match-fixing scandal in which 24 players were suspended, with defender Ramez Dayoub being banned for life. Six of the players have represented the national side in the World Cup campaign.
