BERLIN --
Julian Green joined Hamburger SV on a season-long loan from Bundesliga rival Bayern Munich on Monday.
Hamburg announced the deal on its website but did not disclose a loan fee for the U.S. international.
The 19-year-old, who was born in Florida to a German mother and an American father, is yet to make his Bundesliga debut. The attacking midfielder appeared as a substitute in Bayern's Champions League group game at CSKA Moscow last November.
He has a contract through June 2017 with Bayern, which he joined in 2009 from amateur side SG Hausham.
Green has three appearances for the U.S. after appearing for Germany at youth level. He scored in extra time in the Americans' 2-1 round of 16 loss to Belgium at the World Cup.
Hamburg was also working on a deal to bring Lewis Holtby back to the Bundesliga from Premier League side Tottenham.
"Lewis Holtby is coming for a medical on Monday," Hamburg chief executive Dietmar Beiersdorfer told broadcaster NDR.
Holtby previously played for Schalke and Mainz.
Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Jonas Hofmann also secured a loan deal on the last day of the transfer period. The 22-year-old joined Mainz, which has responded to a difficult start to the season with a flurry of late signings.
Mainz also agreed a season-long loan deal for Leverkusen defender Philipp Wollscheid, having signed attacking players Pablo de Blasis, Sami Allagui and Jairo Samperio in the previous days.
Hertha Berlin signed Per Ciljan Skjelbred to a three-year deal from Hamburg. The Norwegian impressed on loan for the capital club last season.
