Rapid Vienna says American forward Terrence Boyd is leaving to join Red Bull Leipzig in Germany's second division.

Rapid announced on its website Monday that the teams have agreed to the deal and Boyd will take a physical for Leipzig before finalizing a three-year contract. The 23-year-old, who was born in Bremen, Germany, was among the final seven cuts from the U.S. World Cup roster. He scored a career-high 20 goals last season and had 37 goals in two seasons with Rapid.

"I want to thank Rapid and numerous fans for two outstanding years," Boyd said in a statement on the Rapid website. "Unfortunately, it did not come with a title win, but my time in this very special club was hugely important and beautiful to me. The decision to leave was not easy, because I have always felt very comfortable here, both in the club and in the city. A part of my heart will always remain green and white."
