Sweden held the United States to a 1-1 draw in a women's football friendly Tuesday.
The U.S. had the better of the game, with 18 shots to 8, including 11-3 in the first half, but could not capitalize on its chances.
It took until the 44th minute for the Americans to take the lead when Amy Rodriguez cut between the goalkeeper and a defender to get on the end of an Abby Wambach through-ball and shoot over the keeper and into a corner of the net.
''We had a lot of chances in the first half,'' U.S. forward Abby Wambach said. ''Now we're kicking ourselves for not putting them away.''
Heather O'Reilly shot wide from close range just before the break, and Rodriguez put two headers onto the crossbar in the second half.
The first of those led to Sweden's equalizer. The ball remained in play after the shot, and Stina Segerstrom sent a pass from midfield over the top of the U.S. defense to a streaking Linda Forsberg, who beat keeper Nicole Barnhart for the equalizer.
The goal ended a run of nine consecutive clean sheets in home internationals for the Americans.
''Our first half, we did well,'' said American coach Pia Sundhage, a native of Sweden. ''In the second half, we lost a little bit.''
The teams will meet again in East Hartford, Connecticut, on Saturday.
