Manchester United have reportedly appointed an 'atmosphere expert' to help raise the noise levels at Old Trafford.
A 'United source' told the Manchester Evening News that the club have drafted in an 'acoustic engineer' to boost the atmosphere at the ground, which despite the perpetually sold-out crowd of over 75,000, frequently does not generate the noise one might expect from such a large number of supporters.
Indeed, the inspiration for the move is said to have come from fans who sit in the Stretford End, who have complained about the lack of noise at Old Trafford.
The 'source' told the MEN: "There were supporters in the Stretford End who thought they had made a lot of noise only for friends in different parts of the ground to say they couldn't hear them."
The club have confirmed the move to The Guardian.
United have been working for some time to improve the atmosphere at their home stadium, but have now apparently shelved plans to move the away section from the corner of the South and East Stands, into the top tier of the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand.
The MEN claimed: 'The expert attended the Liverpool match in January and will monitor noise levels at another game before the season concludes.
'The findings will then be presented to the Reds' top brass who will decide what action to take.'
