UEFA says it is taking legal action against a former Cypriot Football Association official who alleged the 2012 European Championship was corruptly awarded to Poland and Ukraine.
UEFA confirms it is acting against Spyros Marangos because he missed a Wednesday deadline to provide any evidence backing his claims.
Marangos claimed in a German newspaper that UEFA officials sold the tournament rights for 11 million euros ($15 million) in 2007. The eastern European neighbors defeated Italy 8-4 in a poll of UEFA executive committee members.
UEFA says it is not preparing to sue the newspaper.

Officials in Poland and Ukraine have denied Marangos' claims. Football leaders in Cyprus and Italy also dismissed the allegations.
