UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Bulgaria over allegations that racist abuse was directed at England players during a Euro 2012 qualifying match last month.

European football's governing body says the Bulgarian Football Union faces charges of ''discriminatory behavior relating to chanting by home supporters'' from the Group G game in Sofia on Sept. 2, which England won 3-0.

England's Football Association reported to UEFA after the match that racist abuse was directed at England midfielder Ashley Young by a section of home fans.

UEFA says the case will be heard by its disciplinary body Oct. 13.
