It took Steve McClaren's side 69 minutes to break the deadlock, Kenneth Perez netting with a header. The result ensured Twente took full advantage of PSV Eindhoven's 2-1 defeat by NAC Breda yesterday to jump ahead of their rivals, while RKC continue to look doomed. Third-placed Ajax strolled to a 3-0 victory over Sparta Rotterdam at Het Kasteel to keep up the pressure on the leading duo. First-half goals from Siem de Jong and Gregory van der Wiel put the visitors 2-0 up at the interval. Their one moment of concern came when Kevin Strootman struck a post before before Dennis Rommedahl made the game safe. Feyenoord picked up their eighth away success of the Eredivisie season with a 4-2 victory over Roda JC in a game where both teams had a player sent off. Sekou Cisse (2), Luigi Bruins and Roy Makaay were on target for the visitors, with Jeanvion Matondo and Boldizsar Bodor replying for Roda. The hosts were not helped by the 20th-minute dismissal of Ruud Vormer for a foul - but the numbers were evened up in the closing stages when Feyenoord's Darley was also sent off. FC Groningen boosted their Europa League play-off hopes as Tim Matavz's goal gave them a 1-0 victory at home to VVV Venlo. The Slovenian striker scored for the third Eredivisie game running to settle the contest in the 69th minute. A goal from Ricky van Wolfswinkel five minutes from time secured a 1-0 win that took FC Utrecht up to seventh place in the table. NEC Nijmegen had had Bram Nuytinck sent off three minutes before and the home side managed to find a way through in what remained of the match, with Van Wolfswinkel firing home from Naria Asare's left-wing cross. The result leaves NEC still in 12th, five points above the bottom three.
