Kolo Toure believes team spirit rather than individual talent will be key if Liverpool are to keep up the early pace in the Premier League.

Liverpool have begun their Premier League campaign with three successive 1-0 wins, including beating champions Manchester United at Anfield last time out.

The three victories have put Liverpool on top of the Premier League as they prepare for their Monday night clash with Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.

Brendan Rodgers' teams also showed resilience to overcome an extra-time scare in the Capital One Cup against Notts County.

And Toure believes the unity and determination within the squad will be crucial to what they can achieve this season.

"With team spirit, you can win anything," he told the club's official website. "Individuals are very important, but team spirit is the key - it is the most important thing.

"Individuals can win you one game, but to win trophies or be champions it is [down to] a group of players.

"If you want to be successful, you need to work as a team. That is really, really important because we are a group of players and we have the same target - to win trophies and do as well as we can.

"When you don't play, you need to support the team and your team-mates need to feel that you are behind them fully."

Toure missed Liverpool's 1-0 win over Manchester United due to injury and was delighted with the way Martin Skrtel stepped into the side and thwarted United's star strikers.

"The lads played a great game," he said. "I was off the pitch and really wanted to help them, but I couldn't.

"Skrtel had a fantastic game and we worked as a team really, really well. That is great for the team spirit of the group."
