Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the renovations to PGE Park that will prepare the stadium for the Portland Timbers' jump to the league.

The Timbers had to wait to make major renovations to the stadium until after the Triple-A Portland Beavers baseball team concluded their season. The stadium changes will include full bowl seating, a new club lounge, team store and a new entry from the street.

The Timbers begin MLS play next season. The team currently plays in the U.S. Soccer Federation D-2 Pro League, considered a step below MLS.

The team also announced that season tickets in 15 sections had sold out for the upcoming season, and all but one suite was reserved.
