Ghana will be without Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien, striker Asamoah Gyan and injured winger Andre Ayew for World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and African champion Zambia next month.

Essien, who missed this year's African Cup with injury, won't make his international return in June despite regaining full fitness with his English club. Marseille's Ayew was ruled out for three months in April after shoulder surgery.

New coach Kwesi Appiah also didn't include Gyan in his first selection of 30 players after the United Arab Emirates-based striker took an indefinite break from internationals following the African Cup.

Striker Ishmael Yartey of Benfica and midfielder Christian Atsu of Porto - who are both out on loan - were among six players called up for the first time.
