Sydney FC held Scottish champion Rangers to a 0-0 draw in a friendly on Wednesday, three days after conceding five goals in the opening match of the Festival of Football.

Sydney goalkeeper Liam Reddy made a diving save in the 65th minute to deny a headed attempt from Rangers' American midfielder Maurice Edu.

Sydney's best chance in a rain-soaked match came a minute later, but Ibrahima Thiam's curling shot was tipped away by Neil Alexander.

Sydney lost its opening match in the four-team tournament 5-3 to AEK Athens, which made it two wins in the competition when it beat Blackburn 2-1 in Wednesday's other match.
