Saint Gallen midfielder Marco Mathys was called up to the national team for the first time on Thursday as Switzerland seeks to extend its perfect record in World Cup qualifying against Norway and Iceland.

Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld rewarded Mathys for his club's good start, and recalled forward Nassim Ben Khalifa from surprise league leader Grasshoppers.

Defender Timm Klose of Bundesliga club Nuremberg has also been recalled in the 23-player squad.

Switzerland hosts Norway in Bern on Oct. 12 and faces Iceland in Reykjavik four days later.
