Swiss club Servette has fired coach Joao Alves after his team was eliminated from the Swiss Cup by second-tier Bienne.
Servette says Alves has been replaced by another Portuguese coach, Joao Carlos Pereira.
Pereira previously coached in Portugal, Kuwait and Cyprus.
Alves, a former Portugal and Benfica midfielder, was hired by Servette two years ago and led the team to promotion in his first full season.

Servette is seventh in the 10-team Swiss League but lost its best chance of success when beaten 3-0 away to Bienne in a round-of-16 cup match on Sunday.
