Kieran Richardson's first-half double gave Sunderland a 2-1 win at Blackpool in the Premier League on Saturday, lifting the team within a point of a Europa League place.
Richardson struck in the 15th and 36th minutes at Bloomfield Road as Sunderland improved to 37 points to be just behind fifth-place Tottenham, although having played a match more.
Charlie Adam, who has been linked with a move away from Blackpool in the January transfer window, pulled a goal back from the penalty spot in the 86th minute.
Blackpool remained on 28 points, six above the relegation zone.
