Sunderland players Nicklas Bendtner and Lee Cattermole have been arrested by police on suspicion of damaging cars near the stadium of Premier League rival Newcastle.

Bendtner, who is on loan from Arsenal, and Cattermole were arrested Thursday by Northumbria Police on suspicion of criminal damage on the evening of Dec. 6. They were released on bail.

The alleged damage took place about a half-mile from St. James' Park in Newcastle.

With Sunderland's Stadium of Light only 14 miles from St. James' Park, the rivalry between the northeast England clubs is fierce.
