Second-tier English club Nottingham Forest says manager Steve Cotterill has left the club following a meeting with the new Kuwaiti owners.

The League One club released a statement Thursday thanking Cotterill ''for guiding it through an extremely difficult and traumatic period and for retaining the side's Championship status last season.''

The Al-Hasawi family completed its takeover two days and will hold a news conference at the club's training ground on Saturday.

Cotterill took over at Forest in October 2011 with the team just above the relegation zone, replacing former England manager Steve McLaren. Forest finished 19th under his guidance, 10 points clear of the drop zone.
