Dieudonne Mbokani scored a brilliant solo effort to give Standard
Liege a 1-0 win over Panathinaikos as the Belgian champion moved
into the quarterfinals of the Europa League with a 4-1 aggregate
victory.
Three minutes into first-half injury time, Mbokani flicked a
high ball away from three defenders, controlled it on his thigh and
volleyed past Panathinaikos goalkeeper Alexandros Tzorvas.
Already carrying a 3-1 lead from the first leg, it was all
Standard needed to control the rest of the match.
Boosted by a fervent home crowd of 26,000, Standard dominated
from the first whistle, with Panathinaikos never threatening to get
back into the last-16 match.
