Standard Liege midfielder Mehdi Carcela has decided to play for Belgium's national football team and not for Morocco.

Carcela has roots in both nations but was forced to make a decision when Belgium coach Dick Advocaat called him for two internationals early this month.

He asked for time to make a decision but Standard said Friday "notwithstanding his important link with Morocco" he opted for Belgium.

The 20-year-old Carcela could be called on to play in an international friendly on Nov. 18 against an opponent which has yet to be decided.
