On the other end of the entertainment spectrum this weekend sat Everton-Liverpool. If there ever was a match that summed up just how claustrophobic the Premier League can be, it was this 224th Merseyside derby. Two teams, appearing more scared of losing than anything else, effectively cancelled each other out in a game that felt funereal. "A fascinating tactical battle," Roberto Martinez called it. Uh, no.
Everton didn't even have a shot on target until four minutes from time, and if Jordon Ibe hadn't been on the field, we'd have nothing at all to talk about. Ibe, recently recalled from Derby after a torrid streak, at least showed some endeavor, but his supporting cast -- Philippe Coutinho, Raheem Sterling, Steven Gerrard -- looked zonked.
