Sporting Lisbon has appointed Carlos Carvalhal as the club's new coach.
Carvalhal replaces Paulo Bento who quit just over a week ago after Sporting slipped to seventh place in the Portuguese league, 11 points off the lead.
The 43-year-old Portuguese coach signed a contract till the end of the season, Sporting said in a statement Sunday.
Carvalhal started the season at Maritimo but was fired after three consecutive defeats.
He has been a coach since 1998, working at six different Portuguese clubs and winning the League Cup with Setubal in the 2007-08 season.
