Sporting KC, Chivas de Guadalajara tie 2-2

Omar Bravo's apparent goal against his old team was disallowed, and Sporting Kansas City tied Chivas de Guadalajara 2-2 in an international friendly Wednesday night.

Second-half goals by Soony Saad and Kevin Ellis gave Sporting a 2-1 lead, but Chivas' Erick Torres scored in the 88th-just two minute after Ellis' goal - to salvage the tie for the visitors.

The game was rough for a friendly, with five cautions and one straight red card.

''It was very physical,'' Chivas midfielder Patricio Araujo said. ''There was a lot of pushing, all that stuff. It was a good game.''

Despite the draw, Kansas City coach Peter Vermes said the game served its purpose of getting his players some stiff competition headed into the MLS regular-season stretch.

''I thought it was a good game for us,'' Vermes said. ''Having been off a couple of weeks with the bye, it's always good to have a game - a high-level game - to get the kinks out and get back into a rhythm.''

Marco Fabian converted an early penalty kick for the Mexican side, whose fans significantly outnumbered Sporting's supporters in the crowd of 17,142.

Saad, who came on at halftime, scored in the 75th minute to make it 1-1. Ellis, also a second-half sub, put Kansas City up 2-1 in the 86th with a tap-in after backup keeper Victor Hugo Hernandez couldn't handle Jeferson's free kick.

Bravo, who scored 108 goals-second in team history-in three stints with Chivas, broke free and beat keeper Luis Ernesto Michel in the 51st minute. Bravo was ruled offside, though, and was lifted for Milos Stojcev two minutes later.

''I didn't see it,'' Bravo said through an interpreter. ''I thought the defender brushed me. That's football.''

Fabian scored from the spot in the 20th minute, after Sporting's Aurelien Collin tripped up Carlos Fierro in the penalty area as Fierro maneuvered for a cross. After both that goal and Torres' late equalizer, Chivas fans' cheers rocked Livestrong Sporting Park.

''This is one of the traditional Mexican teams,'' coach Fernando Quirante said. ''This team has a lot of people, Mexican league fans, who anticipate them coming here because they haven't gotten to see them for a long time. It's great.''

Kansas City's Craig Rocastle was given a straight red card in second-half stoppage time for a hard foul on Torres. Given the chippy play up to that point, Vermes said he couldn't fault his defender.

''It was one of those games,'' Vermes said. ''I was happy our guys fought. It is what it is, and sometimes you've got to lay the wood.''
