The 22-year-old midfielder has been given an important job in the first-team squad since Dalglish's return to Anfield back in January, and since the Scot's comeback the Reds have produced a number of impressive results. Spearing was only used in Europa League and Carling Cup matches under former boss Roy Hodgson but is flourishing under his new boss. The local lad admits he is brimming with confidence and is delighted to be more regularly involved. "The new manager has given me a lot of confidence," he said in the Daily Mirror. "He started me in the derby at Anfield in one of his first games and he has shown he has belief in me. He knows what I can do. "Any player that has the confidence of the manager gets a massive boost. "It has just made me want more. I have been in and around the first team for a few years but I'm regularly involved now." Spearing played a prominent role in Liverpool's Premier League victory at Sunderland last weekend, winning a controversial penalty for the opening goal during the 2-0 win. Captain Steven Gerrard sent him a congratulatory text message following the Black Cats triumph and Spearing admits it spurs him on to keep performing. "To receive something like that from someone who has done so much is a massive boost. That proved I could play at this level," he added. "I have to pay that back now and keep it going."
