Spain minister doesn't expect backlash for probe on Villar

MADRID --
Spain's top sports official doesn't expect FIFA to fall into the ''mistake'' of trying to pressure the Spanish government with threats because of a probe into alleged wrongdoings by local federation president Angel Maria Villar, who is a FIFA and UEFA vice president.
Spain's higher sports council president Miguel Cardenal says that ''with everything that has happened with FIFA in recent years, if this type of attitude persists, then it means that they didn't learn anything about what happened to them.''
In an interview with The Associated Press, Cardenal said Spain will stand up to soccer's governing body if it threatens to ban the country's clubs and national team from international competitions.
Villar faces disciplinary proceedings after the council asked a local sports tribunal to investigate alleged misuse of funds.
