Spain's sport minister says his Portuguese counterparts could be doing more to boost the countries' chances of landing the World Cup.

Jaime Lissavetzky told AS he doesn't "see Portugal overly excited" about their joint bid for the 2018 or 2022 tournament with "it seeming that those in football are more interested than the politicians."

Lissavetzky said the two countries have a better chance of landing 2018, which is likely to be awarded to Europe.

England, Belgium-Netherlands and Russia are the other European countries bidding.

Australia, Japan and the United States are also bidding for the rights to stage the World Cup in 2018 or 2022. South Korea, Indonesia and Qatar are in the running for 2022 only.
