Fernando Torres scored twice and David Silva and David Villa added the others to give Spain a 4-0 halftime lead over Tahiti on Thursday in Group B of the Confederations Cup.

The South Pacific islanders tried to make a match of it from the start, attacking against the World Cup champions and winners of the last two European Championships. When they got into trouble, goalkeeper Mikael Roche came up with several sprawling saves to foil the Spaniards.

Torres scored in the fifth and 33rd minutes. Silva added his in the 31st and Villa in the 39th.

Tahiti lost to Nigeria 6-1 in its opening match. Spain defeated Uruguay 2-1 in its opener.
