David Villa scored two goals in four minutes to rally Spain to a 2-1 win over the Czech Republic in European Championship qualifying Friday, giving the holders a six-point lead atop Group I.

Jaroslav Plasil converted the Czech Republic's only shot on goal into the 29th-minute opener with a well-placed left-footer from outside the area.

Spain sent on Fernando Torres and midfielder Santi Cazorla in the second half and succeeded in unlocking the Czechs' defense.

David Villa equalized for the World Cup champion with a strike from the edge of the area in the 69th, and scored what proved to be the winner from the penalty spot in the 73rd after Andres Iniesta was fouled by Jan Rezek in the box.
