The decision was taken on safety grounds at the request of referee Mike Jones and local authorities after more heavy snow hit the UK overnight and during the morning. "Blues groundstaff had been working around the clock to ensure the pitch was playable and supporter sections of the stadium were being attended to by the club's maintenance team,'' read a club statement. "But unfortunately all that good work has been undone by incessant snowfall and referee Mike Jones and the local authorities have asked for the game to be called off. "Roads leading to the stadium have fast become unsafe and so the decision to postpone has been made on health and safety grounds.''
