Sir Geoff: Time for technology

The issue is back in the spotlight again after Chelsea's controversial 2-1 win over Tottenham on Saturday, which saw Frank Lampard's equaliser given despite the whole of the ball appearing not to cross the line. Hurst was famously involved in a similar situation in the 1966 World Cup final and cannot believe things have not improved since then. "We have it (technology) now in all the major sports, tennis, cricket, snooker," Hurst told BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek programme. "Football is our national game, it's the world's biggest game and I am continually astounded that FIFA haven't introduced it just for the goal line itself. "It's so important and so stupid that we don't have it. "I'd say that 99% of people would say it's got to be introduced, but a small handful of people in Zurich decide, perhaps because it's not their idea, that they don't want to introduce it. "I can't fathom it out."
