Sinclair has point to prove

The 22-year-old moved to the Liberty Stadium last summer after a five-year spell with Chelsea that yielded just 14 first-team appearances and countless loan spells. Sinclair, who gained further Premier League experience when on loan at Wigan two seasons ago, decided to drop down a division in order to ensure first-team football and he scored 27 goals last term, including a memorable hat-trick in the play-off final win over Reading. And the England Under-21 forward is keen to show that he has what it takes to perform week in week out in the top flight, starting at Manchester City on Monday night. He said: "It's nice to be back in the Premier League and from a personal point of view to be playing against these players. "If you score goals at this level then it means more than scoring in the Championship because of the different qualities of the teams you play against. "When I left Chelsea I felt that I was a Premier League player. With dropping down a division, the main thing last year was to get as many games as I could. "But this year I need to do as well as I can in the Premier League and show some people I can do it in the Premier League." The excitement has steadily been building in Swansea since the team's promotion, with the club having sold an all-time high of over 16,000 season tickets for their 20,500 capacity home. While many have tipped the Swans for a rapid return to the second tier, there is plenty of optimism among the club's support, and Sinclair is glad the waiting is almost over. "It is a relief that we are finally about to get started, " he said. "Our preparation has been great, the excitement is there and the squad have been bonding well. "We have had a great pre-season and now it has come around and hopefully we can kickstart our season on Monday." While Sinclair was the hero of the thrilling 4-2 win over the Royals as he grabbed a treble at Wembley, he was denied the chance to soak up his success after being named in the England Under-21 squad for their European Championship campaign, which ultimately ended in a first-round exit. But Sinclair has since had time to reflect on his heroics and, after being given an extra period of rest by manager Brendan Rodgers, is raring to go again. "Wembley was a great day but I had to go with the Under-21s so I didn't get the chance to celebrate it straight away, but after that I went away with my girlfriend and a few friends," he said. "I'm feeling fresh and I feel ready. I have had a good rest after the gaffer gave me some extra time off and I am feeling fit and can't wait to get the season under way."
