West Ham’s defence has become extremely leaky, with all flaws being examined. After all the defenders have undergone rigid examination, could the keeper position be under threat too? Could Randolph be pushing Adrian for his No.1 status?

Case For Adrian

Adrian is a real ‘for the fans’ player. There are very few players on the team that give more in emotion that the Spanish stopper. He plays his heart out for the side and is angry when he concedes. No goalkeeper could give more in that regard.

On his day his shot stopping is also very impressive. One of his first games for the hammers was away at Chelsea where he seemed to be unbeatable, and it’s always good to annoy Jose Mourinho. Plus when he’s at his best he pulls off some very eye catching stops. We wouldn’t have kept a clean sheet against Bournemouth at home without him.

He I’d also improving in his distribution and command of area. Removing the communication block between him and Collins against Watford, Adrian is very adept at marshalling the back for and communicating with the centre backs. His improvements as an all round keeper gave even seen him called up to the Spain squad.

    Case For Randolph

The goalkeeping equivalent of a chain restaurant, with Randolph you know exactly what you’re getting. Sure Adrian can give you some wonderful dishes, but what about the time when the food was undercooked and the service was awful? Those days just don’t seem to happen with Ireland’s number one.

He is a solid shot-stopper and a decent presence at set pieces, and defenders always know what he’s up to. Randolph is what you want when you need a calm presence at the back. He looked shaky when he joined, but has grown in confidence and ability during his time at West Ham.

In Randolph you have a regular international who has kept out some of the best teams in the world. He doesn’t have a great defence in front of him at either place, so that will only add to his suitability.

    My Opinion

I think Randolph deserves a go in goal. Even if it is only to remind Adrian that he is not undroppable. That things can change when performances go badly. Every player needs competition, and goalkeepers are no different.

Randolph will not concede needless goals either, and I don’t think the Premier League awards anything for passion. Joe Hart would still be at City if they did!
