Sheff W v Bristol C preview

Sheffield Wednesday striker Jay Bothroyd is expected to miss Saturday's Championship clash with Bristol City at Hillsborough.

Bothroyd, who hurt his ankle during the recent home defeat to Watford, sat out last week's defeat at Cardiff and is not likely to feature.

Stoke loanee Mamady Sidibe partnered Chris O'Grady up front at Cardiff but is also doubtful due to a hamstring strain, while defender Anthony Gardner is struggling with a similar problem. Both players will undergo late fitness tests.

Gary Madine and Rodri are on stand-by should Sidibe fail to make it, while Kieran Lee and Daniel Jones provide manager Dave Jones with alternative options at the back.

Midfielder Danny Mayor is hoping to retain his place in the starting line-up after making his full-debut for the club at Cardiff, while David Prutton is expected to continue alongside him after he made his first appearance for the Owls last week following his return from a loan spell Scunthorpe.

Bristol City will be without Martyn Woolford after the winger developed shingles.

The 27-year-old former Scunthorpe man missed last weekend's defeat to Wolves with a knock to his knee but he will now be kept away from his team-mates for at least the next week.

Manager Derek McInnes was already without a number of first team players including the likes of Lewin Nyatanga and Jon Stead while four of his players are on the comeback trail but are not ready for Championship action just yet.

Stephen McManus, Greg Cunningham, Cole Skuse and Jody Morris have returned to training but the trip to Hillsborough comes too soon for them.

Steven Davies gave his manager a reminder of what he can do with a goal for the reserves in a 1-1 draw with Exeter in midweek, a Robins side that also included winger Paul Anderson who has only played six times for the first team this season.
