Shakhtar Donetsk says it has signed Argentine forward Facundo Ferreyra from Velez Sarsfield on a five-year contract in a transfer worth $9 million.

The 22-year-old Ferreyra moved from Banfield to Velez Sarsfield and was the team's top scorer in his first season as it won the Primera Division title in 2012, capturing 13 goals.

''I am very happy,'' Ferreyra said. ''I was flattered by the interest expressed by Shakhtar, and I will try to fully compensate for the trust with my performance on the pitch and with good goals. You can expect a lot of goals from me.''

The move comes a day after Armenian playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan departed to Borussia Dortmund on Monday. Also, Brazilian playmaker Fernandinho's transferred to Manchester City in June. Shakhtar has also signed Brazilian winger Alan Patrick.
