Sevilla beats Villarreal in boost for Champions League spot

MADRID (AP) Ukraine midfielder Yevhen Konoplyanka scored with a long-range shot in the 65th minute as Sevilla beat Villarreal 4-2 in the Spanish league on Sunday, a key victory in the team's fight for a Champions League spot.
Sevilla's 13th straight home victory in the league helped it move within five points of fourth-place Villarreal with nine rounds left.
The top three teams automatically qualify for the Champions League next season, while the fourth-place club has to play an extra qualifying round.
Third-place Real Madrid, which plays at Las Palmas later Sunday, is seven points ahead of Villarreal.
Barcelona routed Getafe 6-0 Saturday to keep an eight-point lead over Atletico Madrid, which kept pace by defeating Deportivo La Coruna 3-0 in Madrid.
