Serbia beats Faeroe Islands 3-1 in Euro qualifier

Serbia beat Faeroe Islands 3-1 in a Euro 2012 qualifier on Tuesday thanks to goals by Milan Jovanovic, Zoran Tosic and Zdravko Kuzmanovic.
The hosts opened the match aggressively, and a header by Jovanovic put them ahead in the 6th minute. Tosic made it 2-0 in the 23rd with a powerful volley from Aleksandar Kolarov's pass.
Serbia sat back after the second goal, and Christian Lamhauge Holst set up Frodi Benjaminsen to slot in for the visitors in the 37th.
Milan Jovanovic was only few meters from the goal when he attempted in 41st, but Rene Torgard was well-placed.
Serbia stepped up the pressure in the second half, and Jovanovic attempted at the goal immediately at the start, but sent the ball above the goal.
The hosts kept attacking and had several chances before Kuzmanovic eventually restored the two-goal cushion when Kuzmanovic scored in the 69th with a 25-yard (meter) striker.
''It wasn't hard,'' coach Vladimir Petrovic said. ''We took a lead easily, but then we took it easy and Faeroe Islands took advantage. But we were back in the second half, and wrapped the match routinely.''
