Sepp Blatter condemns "cowardly" pipe bomb attack on referee association

NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) FIFA President Sepp Blatter has condemned a ''cowardly'' pipe bomb attack on the Cyprus Referee Association's clubhouse.
Blatter offered full support to the Cyprus Football Association's efforts to protect match officials.
Police said the low-yield explosive device placed at the clubhouse entrance in the pre-dawn hours Monday caused minor damage.
Cypriot referees are sometimes the target of abuse and intimidation. Referee association chairman Michalis Argyrou says a firebomb was tossed at a referee's home in Limassol two weeks ago.
In February, the Cypriot federation postponed all first division matches for a weekend after a bombing damaged the car of a top referee in the country.
Argyrou urged police to take action in order to stop this ''repeated pattern of behavior.''
