Veteran Villarreal midfielder Marcos Senna is hopeful of signing a contract extension with the club.

The star's current deal with the Yellow Submarine runs out at the end of the season, but Senna has intimated that he would like to stay beyond that time.

The 34-year-old Spain international is hopeful that he can make an impression on head coach Juan Carlos Garrido to earn one more contract.

Senna said: "My contract ends here this year and my dream is to stay. I am happy here, this is my home. So my dream is to retire here.

"My plan is to play two more years of football and then, like I said, I would retire.

"It is logical that people may have doubts, everyone has an opinion. But I assure you I had none.

"I was convinced that it could be a good year for me, regardless of age. I just think about it game by game and don't look too long-term."
