Dundee United climbed to third in the Scottish Premier League on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Falkirk.

Morgaro Gomis struck twice after David Goodwillie scored from the penalty spot for his ninth goal of the season.

The victory gives United 45 points from 27 games, while fourth-place Hibernian was held to a 1-1 draw at home to St. Johnstone.

Liam Craig scored a late penalty at Easter Road after Hibs had led from the third minute from a spot kick by Anthony Stokes.

Hibs are one point behind United and three above Motherwell, which beat Kilmarnock 1-0 courtesy of Jamie Murphy's header.

Motherwell has a 12-point cushion over seventh-place Aberdeen, whose miserable run continued with a 1-0 loss to 10-man Hearts.

Eggert Jonsson scored with an overhead kick in the 64th after Hearts substitute Laryea Kingston was shown a straight red card for a high challenge on Fraser Fyvie.

St. Mirren and Hamilton drew 0-0.

On Sunday, Rangers can extend its lead over Celtic to 10 points by beating its Glasgow rival.
