Schalke has signed Austria left back Christian Fuchs from Bundesliga rival Mainz.
Schalke says the 25-year-old defender signed a four-year contract. No details were given. Fuchs had recently extended his contract with Mainz until 2015.
Schalke reached the semifinals of the Champions League last season and won the German Cup, but was only 14th in the Bundesliga. Mainz finished fifth. Both clubs will play in the Europa League next season.
