German media say the Schalke team bus left Augsburg without striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar after Sunday's Bundesliga match, forcing the Netherlands star to get a lift in a police car.
The bus inadvertently left the stadium without Huntelaar, who had scored the equalizer in the 1-1 draw. He has 25 goals in the Bundesliga this season.
Police then drove Huntelaar and caught up with the bus shortly afterward.
Bild newspaper says Huntelaar had asked one of its reporters for the telephone number of Schalke manager Horst Heldt.
