Colombia President Juan Manuel Santos has described the infiltration of drug money into the country's professional football clubs as repugnant and is promising to do away with it.
Santos made the vow Wednesday at an awards banquet for Edgar Renteria, the Colombian star of this year's Major League Baseball World Series. The event was packed with the country's sporting elite.
Colombia's acting chief prosecutor has confirmed that topflight club Independiente Santa Fe of Bogota is under investigation for being a money-laundering vehicle.
Police say the man at the center of the scandal - Alberto Lozano - turned himself in to authorities in the United States last month.
