Sabrosa leads Atletico to victory

Simao Sabrosa scored twice to lead Atletico Madrid to a 5-1 victory
over Recreativo Huelva and into the Copa del Rey quarterfinals on
Thursday.
Atletico erased a three-goal deficit from the first leg with
Sergio Aguero's 53rd-minute goal, but Recreativo substitute Carlos
Carmona tied the two-leg series with his valuable away goal in the
71st.
With Atletico down to 10 men, Simao curled a free kick into
the top corner in the 84th for his side to advance 5-4 on
aggregate.
Simao opened the scoring at Vicente Calderon Stadium in the
21st before Aguero doubled the lead with a redirection three
minutes later.
Tomas Ujfalusi headed Simao's corner in off the underside of
the crossbar as the host tied the series before Aguero managed to
put Atletico ahead following a wild goal line scramble.
But Carmona stole from Paulo Assuncao deep inside the
Atletico area and beat David De Gea to put the visitors ahead on
away goals.
Atletico was forced to go for another score one man down
after Assuncao picked up a second yellow card minutes after
Carmona's goal and Simao picked the near corner perfectly after
Aguero was fouled on the edge of the area.
Atletico, which had never recovered from such a deficit in
the domestic cup competition, advanced to play another
second-division side in Celta Vigo.
Earlier, Mario Suarez's injury-time goal provided Mallorca
with a 3-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano to also advance.
Victor Casadesus scored both of Mallorca's goals in the
second half before taking a hit to the head to exit with 10 minutes
left. Suarez, his replacement, volleyed home during an injury-time
goalmouth scramble to put the hosts through 4-3 overall.
Rayo opened during first half extra time as Sergio Pachon
provided a perfect throughball for Francesco "Piti" Medina, who
moved clear into the area and blew a right-footed shot straight
over goalkeeper German Lux.
Casadesus began the rally five minutes after the break by
heading home a flicked-on corner at the far post. He then drew
Mallorca even on aggregate at Oni Stadium in the 61st by volleying
a loose ball past Daniel Gimenez at the same right post.
Mallorca will face Getafe, which eliminated Malaga 6-3 on
aggregate with a 5-1 win on Wednesday.
Also on Wednesday, Barcelona beat Sevilla 1-0 but the cup
holder exited the competition on away goals after the series
finished 2-2. Sevilla will play Deportivo La Coruna next after the
Galician club eliminated Valencia 4-3 on aggregate.
Racing Santander ended third-tier Alcorcon's run, which
included Real Madrid's elimination, as a scoreless draw on
Wednesday secured a matchup against Osasuna, which advanced over
second-division leader Hercules on away goals.
Celta Vigo advanced 2-1 on aggregate after beating Villarreal
1-0 on Tuesday.
