Coach Fabio Capello's Russia came from behind to beat Belarus 4-2 in a friendly Sunday thanks to goals from two young newcomers.
The win is a boost for Capello after his team's struggles in Euro 2016 qualifying, where Russia is third in its group.
''I'm happy with the result and I'm happy with the young players, who showed what they can do,'' the Italian told Russian media.
The former England coach has made a point of looking to youngsters who could feature at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but that plan had previously misfired in a disappointing 0-0 draw with Kazakhstan in March.
On Sunday, Russia led through Alexander Kokorin's 20th-minute opener before two goals from Sergei Kislyak put Belarus ahead.
Capello made six second-half substitutions, bringing on some well-known faces, but it was two 19-year-olds who changed the game once off the bench.
Midfielder Alexander Golovin, who is not even a regular for his club CSKA Moscow, equalized in style on 77 minutes, controlling a cross-field pass on his chest and smashing a volley past goalkeeper Alexander Gutor.
Six minutes later, Alexei Miranchuk put Russia ahead, with the Lokomotiv Moscow winger firing in a low shot.
Veteran striker Alexander Kerzhakov added Russia's fourth on a counterattack in stoppage time.
Russia hosts Austria on June 14 in Euro 2016 qualifying. Belarus is at home to Spain the same day.
