Rubin draws 0-0 with Dynamo in Champs League

Rubin Kazan and Dynamo Kiev drew 0-0 in their Champions League match played amid a heavy snowfall on Tuesday, leaving both teams in contention for a spot in the knockout round.

Rubin could have secured advancement with a win coupled with a loss for Barcelona against Inter Milan later Tuesday. The Russian champion has six points from five games, while Dynamo is one point behind.
Rubin dominated possession in the first half, but despite having three strikers in the starting lineup Dynamo could not break through a disciplined Rubin defense and failed to create a single clear scoring opportunity before the interval.
The only slim chance was wasted by Dynamo in the fourth minute, when no one met Andriy Shevchenko's cross from the left edge of the box.
Rubin's best scoring opportunity came right on halftime when Turkish midfielder Gokdeniz Karadeniz broke down the right flank and crossed to Alejandro Dominguez in the box. The Argentine striker volleyed from 11 meters with a scissor kick and the ball bounced off the pitch, but Olexandr Shovkovskiy dived to block it with a spectacular save.
Earlier, Aleksandr Bukharov had a shot on goal from Dominguez's cross from the left in the 34th. Shovkovskiy blocked Dominguez's shot from the left four minutes later.
It was a more open game in the second half, with both teams wasting clear chances.
Dynamo had it first scoring opportunity in the 51st, but Andriy Yarmolenko failed to beat Sergei Ryzhikov one-on-one and Shevchenko then fired the rebound wide of the empty net.
The home side then seized the initiative, threatening Dynamo's goal under a worsening snowfall at the sold-out Centralny stadium.
Dynamo replied with sharp counter attacks and Ryzhikov blocked Gerson Magrao's low shot from just inside the box in the 64th and another one from Shevchenko from 15 meters five minutes later.
